A domestic dispute in Casa Grande took the worst possible turn when a woman attempted to kill her ex-husband and poison their four kids in order to prevent losing custody of them.
According to police, 35-year-old Connie Villa was arrested upon leaving a hospital and charged with one count of first-degree murder and 4 counts of attempted murder. She had been in the hospital for what police called self-inflicted stab wounds.
She has not been formally charged by prosecutors yet, but the charges are seen as a sure thing, as Villa admitted to police to the entire event, including strangling her 13-year-old daughter with her bare hands after she refused to swallow prescription narcotics. After being lured to the house, her ex-husband also suffered stab wounds, but was able to get away and call 911 while driving to a hospital.
All of this is the aftermath of an especially bitter divorce, which was just barely finalized. The original papers, filed by Adam Villa back in 2012, indicate that their marriage was broken beyond repair. In her statement filed, Connie Villa mentioned that there had been no history of abuse in the relationship, but that she was afraid her husband’s post-traumatic stress disorder was causing some out of control anger problems.
At the time, Connie Villa stated that she only wished the best for her husband, and that she wanted to have a normal family again.
The ex-couple’s other children, ages 3, 5, and 8 are all in good health, and medical professionals only found a trace amount of narcotics in their systems. The children are currently being cared for by their father’s family while this entire event transpires. It is unknown how the entire event will unfold, but prosecutors are confident.
